The last time Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman worked together on picture with a sports backdrop, both won Academy Awards.
From boxing’s “Million Dollar Baby”, the pair now turn to rugby.
The untitled drama is based on the true story of how Nelson Mandela, the new president of South Africa, worked with the captain of the national rugby team, Francois Pienaar, to help unite the country after apartheid.
Eastwood will direct Freeman from Anthony Peckham’s screenplay adapted from John Carlin’s book, “Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation”.

Hey, I’ve been waiting a long time for something to match “This Sporting Life” with Richard Harris in terms of a good rugby story in the movies.
Here’s hoping Clint does it.
Seems to me the sport of rugby would lend itself to the film camera, wondering why more havent been produced
Freeman as Mandela, that should be a good bit of casting, I just hope they get the sport right.
