New Horse Racing Drama Runs from Off-Broadway to Film
Writer Mike Batistick’s off-Broadway play, “Ponies”, is now being produced as a movie and is currently shooting in New York City.
Directed by Nick Sandow and based on Batistick’s script, the story is about three immigrants from different countries who meet each other in the world of off-track horserace betting.
The film, which marks veteran theater director Sandow’s film debut, stars Tonye Patano, Kevin Corrigan, Babs Olusanmokun and John Ventimiglia.
“It represents three different aspects: American immigration, American identity and the American dream,” said producer Tom Donahue. “It is based on the play which premiered in 2002, about the loss of liberty in the Bush Era, and many of those issues are relevant today.”

Horse racing films have had mixed results but when they are good, they are exceptional like Seabiscuit
Should be more movies involving sports and gambling despite the failure of Al Pacino’s recent film.
