Billy Bob Thornton to Produce a Baseball Film

On the heels of news about the resurrection of the baseball drama, “Moneyball”, actor Billy Bob Thornton has announced he will return to the diamond on the silver screen as well, this time as a producer.

larussaThe story, “Three Nights in August“, is based on Buzz Bissinger’s  nonfiction book that looks inside the mind and dugout dealings of St. Louis Cardinals manager, Tony LaRussa along with the quirks and rituals in the clubhouse during a series against the Chicago Cubs in the 2003 season.

Thornton, who starred in the Texas high school football film, “Friday Night Lights”
based on another Bissinger book, has not stated that he will be among the cast at this time. As a producer along with Red Bird Cinema’s managing director John Loar, Thornton will actively participate in meeting with writers and directors for the project.

Another actor who will play a role behind the scenes is Kevin Pollak, (“Juwanna Man”, “End of Days”, “The Usual Suspects”), who along with La Russa and Bissinger will serve as Executive Producer.

Thornton, who portrayed former minor league pitcher-turned-Little League coach Morris Buttermaker in the remake of  “The Bad News Bears”, is an avid Cardinals fan.

I hope executive producer Kevin Pollack decides on a role in this film. He’s a funny dude.

I dont know. How insightful can it be or revealing when LaRussa is also Exec Producer, how much freedom will there be to get inside stuff.
