Quarterbacks Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson got the Minnesota Vikings started in pre-season action, but the team will ride its playoff hopes on the 39 year-old arm of Brett Favre, who signed with the team yesterday.
Holder of a bevy of all-time NFL passing records, Favre will be wearing his familiar jersey number 4 in the huddle after coming off arthroscopic surgery to fix his throwing shoulder in May.
This is Favre’s second comeback. A year ago, he came out of a short retirement to join the New York Jets.
Using a rare combo of a shotgun arm and toughness in the pocket, Favre, who said he could operate the Vikings offense ‘in his sleep’, will be joined by the NFL’s leading runner in Adrian Jackson. Along with a stellar defensive line, Minnesota shapes up to certainly be in a position to defend their NFC North title.
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the deal is worth $10-12 million.
Is he worth it?
Ask Viking fans in January.

Hey better than guys named Sage and Tarvaris
Lets hope he doesnt look like Unitas and Namath at the end of their careers with the Chargers and Rams
We’ve got someone who can plug right into the system that still has a shotgun arm and smarts.
Best quarterback in franchise history- Fran Tarkenton
We have a QB, a running back and a modern Purple People Eater on the defensive line – Now all we need is to bring back Bud Grant
Favre will lead Minnesota to another division crown and his toughness and experience will elevate the team deeper into the playoffs
For $10 million can we buy some playoff wins?
favre’s got a gun..still!
more than a gun, Favre has the swagger that comes from having won it all.
Can the Vikes invade the promised land led by Favre? Yes
Favre takes the Vikings deep….into the playoffs
I think this a great move by the Vikes. A proven winner with a repaired arm.
Sage or Travars may or may not be the future, but Bret is the now and that now is looking good.
Bring on the Bears. I think we get past Chicago to win the crown riding favre’s arm
