Who Was The Best Team of the Decade?
The first decade of the twenty-first century has come to a close and there have been some outstanding squads from all the team sports.
You recently witnessed a dominating run by the New York Yankees who became the only team of the decade to win 100 games and the World Series.
The New England Patriots went undefeated in 2007 and all the way to the Super Bowl before falling.
In Los Angeles, the Lakers with Shaq and Kobe opened the decade with the second NBA crown in their threepeat performance.
For college the sunshine state really produced the best in football and basketball. The Miami Hurricanes of 2001 not only went 12-0 and won the national title, but they were such a force as to outscore their opponents by almost 400 points! No surprise then that ten players from that record-setting unit would become NFL All-Pros. In hoops, the Florida Gators won back-to-back basketball titles beginning in 2006 becoming the first to take consecutive crowns in 15 years.
But who was THE best?
That would be the ……….. 2001-2002 Detroit Red Wings.
The Motor City Monsters tore up the NHL with 116 points and won the Stanley Cup over the Carolina Hurricanes. They were so deeply talented that two future hall of famers- Luc Robitaille and Igor Larionov – were on the fourth line. One of the greatest coaches of all-time, in any sport, Scotty Bowman, orchestrated the proceedings with Nicklas Lidstrom winning this second Norris Trophy as best defenseman. In the goal was the 37-year-old Dominator- Dominik Hasek, who had a 2.17 GAA in the regular season and a 1.86 in the playoffs. He had five shutouts in the regular season and six in the postseason.

That would be the 2002 Los Angeles Lakers with Shaq and Kobe.
Despite losing in the Super Bowl to the Giants after their undefeated rewgualr seaosn, give me the Patriots
Hey this year’s NY Yankees trump all- a brilliant season all the way through.
