“Vince Lombardi is coming back to Green Bay,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said as the silver trophy was handed to the Packer team that had just beaten Pittsburgh, 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV before 103,219 fans at Cowboys Stadium yesterday.
As you can see from my prior post, I was wrong in predicting the winner. But hey, I haven’t heard of anyone that had predicted Pittsburgh would have three turnovers maxed out to 21 Packer points either. Despite all that, it was an entertaining game.
Green Bay won the first Super Bowl and certainly earned their victory in the latest edition. The Packers scrambled to two late-season victories just to make the playoffs as a wild card. Then followed with road wins at Philadelphia, Atlanta and archrival Chicago and now capped it all in Dallas against a Pittsburgh team ranked second in defense.
Most assuredly the late Vince Lombardi would be proud.
