College Football 2011: Conference USA

Way out West, you gotta believe Case Keenum will throw forever, or at least until the Cougars clinch the title. Riding on the arm of one of the most prolific passers in college football history, Houston should edge out SMU and Tulsa which shared the West crown last season. Tulsa gobbles up a lot of yards (the Golden Hurricane outgained C-USA opponents by an average of 70+ yards per game ) but have a new coach and a weak defense while SMU, though it has 18 starters returning, has a tough schedule compared to Houston with difficult games at Texas A&M, TCU and Southern Miss.

College Football 2011: The Atlantic Coast

On the Atlantic side, Boston College with 14 returning starters led by RB Montel Harris (3,600 career yards) and consensus All-America Luke Kuechly at middle linebacker and Maryland with the tough run defense and one of the league’s best QB’s in Sophomore Danny O’Brien flinging it for new Terrapin coach Randy Edsall, should be the leading contenders, but in the end it should be Florida State’s trophy.

College Football 2011: Big Ten

Most conferences use geographical terms in naming their divisions like north and coastal but the Big Ten, not sure of their statement with Legends and Leaders. Whatever they choose as a moniker, of the TWELVE teams in the Big Ten, look for Nebraska and Wisconsin to take their respective division titles, but not without a fight.

College Football 2011: SEC

Will the SEC will extend its streak to six straight BCS national championships?

In the SEC West, Alabama is looking good despite the loss of solid starting quarterback Greg McElroy and 2009 Heisman winner Mark Ingram, and will look even better if senior linebacker Courtney Upshaw can overcome an ankle injury from last season. Junior running back Trent Richardson is Alabama’s key threat on offense as the offensive line returns four of five starters. Look for Nick Saban to roll his Tide through any opposition.

College Football 2011: Big East

Certainly not one of the moré dominant conferences in college football, with an influx of new coaches (Pitt, Connecticut), more parity and bottom feeders like Louisville and Syracuse stepping up their game, the Big East hopes to trim back on the Big Least heckling of recent years.

College Football 2011: Big 12

With Nebraska and Colorado bolting for the Big Ten and PAC-12, respectively the Big 12 will operate as 10-team league – at least for this year. Really just two less teams that won’t get past Oklahoma as the Sooners, with such explosiveness on both sides of the ball, I feel are poised to fight Alabama for the national championship. Missouri, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Texas will follow in the trail dust left by the Sooner Wagon.
