Luck: HBO’s New Racetrack Drama Off to a Good Start

Set against the world of horse racing, this new series created by David Milch and Michael Mann, has moved out of the gates to overall positive reviews filling the screen with well-presented horse races, gambling and lots of scheming and intrigue. But unlike the races themselves, the pacing is much more methodical leaning toward observational storytelling. And HBO couldn’t be happier as they have already agreed to a second season after just one episode aired.

Chadwick Boseman & Harrison Ford Cast in Jackie Robinson Movie

Legendary Pictures announced that Chadwick Boseman, who has appeared on “Justified,” “Fringe” and “Castle,” will play Dodger baseball great Jackie Robinson and will be joined by Harrison Ford to play Branch Rickey, the Brooklyn Dodgers GM who with Jackie Robinson broke the color line in baseball in 1947.

Sports Films Among the Movies at the 2011 AFM Looking to Break into the Lineup

The stats are impressive – 8,000 filmmaking professionals from 70 nations involving over 400 films with more than $800 million in deals to be sealed over the next eight days. And they are all converging right in my backyard – Santa Monica, California. That averages out to about 30 new films every two hours – the majority of them world or U.S. premieres. It is the American Film Market, one of the biggest annual business gatherings of the independent motion picture production and distribution industry.
