The Most Memorable Games in Giants History:

For football fans growing up with the New York Giants comes this treasure trove of insightful anecdotes and personal experiences covering some of the biggest games in this storied franchise’s history.

Authors Baker and Corbett adroitly let those who played, coached and watched these pivotal thirteen games create a riveting collection of mind’s-eye details from each of the games selected. (Interestingly the authors chose NOT to cover the so-called ‘greatest game ever played’, the Giants vs. Colts in the 1958 NFL Championship, saying it has already been given ‘plenty of attention’.)

Randy Johnson: Last of the 300 Game Winners?

This past Thursday the Big Unit joined an exclusive small unit by earning his 300th win as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Washington Nationals 5-1.

The 45-year-old Johnson is the sixth left-hander to win 300 games and the second-oldest pitcher to reach the milestone. Knuckleballer Phil Niekro was 46 when he won his 300th with the New York Yankees in 1985.

“Big Fan”: Scores in Hollywood

Writer/director Robert Siegel (“The Wrestler”) received some good news about his movie. Earlier this week The Hollywood Reporter noted that First Independent Pictures has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Siegel’s “Big Fan”, starring Patton Oswalt as an obsessive New York Giants fan.
A theatrical release is planned for late summer or early fall.

“Big Fan”: Whose Life Is It Anyway?

Before all the accolades that came with writing an Oscar-nominated film (“The Wrestler”), Robert Siegel wrote and directed a small picture using football as a backdrop on the psychology of obsession. Having scored in a run through the film festivals, “Big Fan” has garnered some critical momentum that may yield broader distribution. One of the reasons why is that the story rings of a sad truth.

NFL Draft 2009:

Because their needs range all over the field especially on the defensive side where they ranked dead last in the league for two years running, rumors abound about what the Detroit Lions will do with the top pick of the 2009 NFL Draft tomorrow.

2009 Baseball Preview – National League – West

Arizona Diamondbacks Lots of young bats should take advantage of one of the more offense-oriented ballparks, but they won’t go far without cutting down on the k’s. Arizona’s offense was second in the majors in striking out. Five starters from Justin Upton and Mark Reynolds to catcher Chris Snyder each exceeded the century mark in whiffs. Not good.
