Lists and debates, a long-standing component of sports media, continues with the release of an all-new 3 hour DVD from Major League Baseball Productions and A&E Home Entertainment -PRIME 9: MLB HEROICS ESPN is now offering on DVD the remaining 15 of the 30 films from its original slate in the highly acclaimed “30 for 30″ series. Baseball’s Midsummer Classic returns to Anaheim Tuesday for the third time since the All-Star Game began in 1933, but the event has changed quite a bit since the city first hosted the exhibition (in 1967 when the NL won in dramatic fashion on a Tony Perez home run in the 15th inning). This beautifully-packaged, digitally preserved celebration of the Fall Classic is a magnificent collection of all the drama and unforgettable moments of the World Series. Encased in a hardcover book that includes a 58-page pictorial retrospective going back to the event’s origins in 1903, are 65 films on 20 DVDs representing nearly 50 hours of restored and newly digitized masters going back to 1943. The 80th edition of major league baseball’s all-star game plays out later today in St. Louis. The event, which began in 1933 at Comiskey Park in Chicago and featured a two-run homer by Babe Ruth to give the junior circuit the win, has been held in this Missouri city four times. |
