“Vince Lombardi is coming back to Green Bay,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said as the silver trophy was handed to the Packer team that had just beaten Pittsburgh, 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV. Yes, I dare show my face after missing wide left AND right on my predictions on which teams would get here. Aiming for a little redemption, here is how I see Super Bowl XLV turning out. The road to Super Bowl XLV in Dallas gets more treacherous as the league enters the playoffs where it is lose and you’re done time. No rest for the weary (except for those that earned a bye – Steelers, Patriots, Bears and Falcons, but as recent history has proven the higher seeds aren’t locks for a Super Bowl berth.) With an impressive win over San Diego to pull them to .500, the defending champs look to be back on track despite injuries to running back Willie Parker and safety Troy Polamalu. Directing Pittsburgh to an exciting victory over the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, Ben Roethlisberger continues to provide fine leadership. If Jeff Reed’s early shaky kicking turns around and the injuries abate, with a deep defense look for the Steelers to be in the Super Bowl hunt again this year |
